This protein can be used to prevent and treat embolism. Clinical trials are under development.
Clinical investigations have manifested that recombinant hirudin can be used to treat venous embolism, acute coronary artery syndrome (ACS) and heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). It can also be used to replace heparin in cardiopulmonary bypass and blood dialysis. Encouragingly, this agent is safe for both the mother and the fetus while being administrated in pregnant and lactational periods.
